Consumers Credit Union and Nothing Bundt Cakes Host Record-Breaking Cake Walk to Benefit Special Olympics Michigan and be nice.

Grand Rapids, Mich. — Consumers Credit Union, a full-service financial institution known for its commitment to community impact, is once again teaming up with Nothing Bundt Cakes to host a record-breaking cake walk with a powerful purpose. On Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the community is invited to the newly completed Special Olympics Michigan campus to help raise funds for two vital organizations: Special Olympics Michigan and the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan’s be nice. program. The event will feature family-friendly fun reminiscent of a classic penny carnival, with music, games, food trucks, inflatables and activities for all ages.

The event will take place on the Consumers Credit Union track at the Unified Sports and Inclusion Center, where 700+ participants will walk in rhythm to music in hopes of claiming one of 10 big prizes. Each registered walker will receive a numbered bib and a coupon for a free Bundtlet from Nothing Bundt Cakes, redeemable at select locations.

“This event is about more than just breaking records—it’s about breaking barriers,” said Tim Hileman, CEO of Special Olympics Michigan. “The Cake Walk is a joyful, high-energy celebration that brings people together to support two incredible causes. We’re excited to welcome the community to our campus for a morning of fun, connection and purpose.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit Special Olympics Michigan, which provides year-round sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities, and be nice., a mental health education and suicide prevention initiative that empowers individuals with a proven action plan to support themselves and others.

“From the moment we opened our doors, we’ve believed in giving back to the community that supports us,” said Scott Vogel, owner of Nothing Bundt Cakes in Grand Rapids and Muskegon. “Partnering with Consumers Credit Union on this event is a sweet way to make a real difference.”

Christy Buck, founder and CEO of be nice., added, “We’re honored to be a part of an event that not only brings joy but also raises awareness for mental health. Every step taken during the Cake Walk helps us take one step closer to a stigma-free future.”

“We’re incredibly proud to host our first community-wide event at the Consumers Credit Union track on the Special Olympics Michigan campus,” said Scott Sylvester, president and CEO of Consumers Credit Union. “This facility represents our shared commitment to inclusion, and we are thrilled to open the stadium to the public for a day of celebration, connection and giving back.”

Registration is now open at www.consumerscu.org/cakewalk. Participation is free, but donations are encouraged.

Join us on September 6 to walk, win and make a lasting impact. Registration starts at 10:00 a.m. with the actual walk time beginning at 11:30 a.m.
