Consumers Credit Union Welcomes New CEO and Several Other Executive-Level Appointments

Kalamazoo, MICH — Consumers Credit Union is excited to announce several changes and new additions to our executive leadership team, including Scott Sylvester, President & CEO; Lindsay Land, Chief Operations Officer; Bob Dunning, Chief Information Officer; and Scott Adams, Chief Risk Officer.

With more than 28 years working at Consumers in various capacities, Scott Sylvester recently stepped into his newest role as president & CEO, following the retirement of longtime leader Kit Snyder.

Prior to taking the helm, the Michigan State University graduate held several other roles within the credit union, including manager of information systems, vice president of technology, chief financial and technology officer and, most recently, chief operations officer.

“As we begin this next chapter in our journey, the Consumers team will always strive to provide the same high level of service to our communities and members,” said Sylvester. “I look forward to our continued growth and expansion into new markets, as well as future opportunities to serve our membership.”

Upon graduating from Western Michigan University where she studied human resource management, finance and mathematics, Land spent more than 17 years in the credit union industry. During this time, she has served in a variety of roles from human resources to operations.

Among her other responsibilities, Land works collaboratively to set strategy and lead the credit union’s digital banking, electronic payments, facilities and project management teams. She also serves as treasurer for the Greater Southwest Chapter of Credit Unions.

“I’m thrilled to continue working collaboratively to drive the credit union’s growth through physical office expansion and enhanced digital services,” said Land. “At Consumers, we cultivate an environment of empowerment and development, resulting in a high level of employee and member engagement.”

Bob Dunning began his career with Consumers as a college intern in 2001. Upon graduating from Western Michigan University, Dunning accepted a position as the systems assistant for the credit union and has since held various roles until 2022 when he was promoted to chief information officer.

As part of his role, Dunning oversees IT operations, software development, information security, data and reporting. He also provides strategic direction and vision for emerging technologies, which certainly has contributed to Consumers’ success and 18% annual average growth for more than 35 years.

In addition to his work for Consumers, Dunning serves on the Credit Union Industry Board for Hyland Software, the Kalamazoo Promise IT Training Partnership, the Build IT Together Advisory Council and the WMU Computer Science and College of Engineering and Advisory Boards.

“I’m eager for this next step in my career with Consumers,” said Dunning. “By implementing reliable, innovative solutions we will ultimately better support member service, team collaboration and overall efficiency.”

Scott Adams smiles for the camera.As chief risk officer, Scott Adams is responsible for various risk functions at Consumers Credit Union, including compliance, risk advisory services and internal audit.

Prior to his work with Consumers, Adams spent several years in public accounting, providing audit, tax and valuation services. He began working with Consumers in 2011 as an internal auditor, which provided an opportunity to learn about various functions within the credit union and how they work together to drive success.

“I look forward to collaborating with my teammates across the credit union to build an enterprise risk management program that supports our mission and goals,” said Adams.

In addition to the newly appointed executives, the Consumers executive leadership team also includes Steve Howard, chief financial officer; Lynne Jarman-Johnson, chief marketing officer; Steve Owens, chief lending officer; Shawn Premer, chief human resources officer; and Jeff Visser, chief sales officer.
