Your local library has the key to more fun with the Michigan Activity Pass. Anyone with a library card can use this budget-friendly pass at hundreds of attractions around the Great Lakes state for free or discounted admission.

What is the Michigan Activity Pass?

The Michigan Activity Pass is a program provided by Michigan public libraries in collaboration with participating destinations. It gives library cardholders a way to save money when visiting participating partners.

The hundreds of partners include cultural destinations, parks, campgrounds and recreation areas across Michigan. A few examples are Big Sable Point Lighthouse in Ludington, the Thomas Edison Depot Museum in Port Huron and the U.P.’s Laughing Whitefish Falls State Park.

How to access the Michigan Activity Pass

To get started you need a library card. If you don’t already have one, you can get one free at your local library.

To access the pass:

• Go to the Michigan Activity Pass website and scroll down to the “Start your Adventure” section
• Select your local library from the pulldown menu
• Search for activities by keyword, location or date
• Filter search results by your interests, such as “art” or “camping” or whatever you like

When you find an attraction you want to visit click on the venue’s “Pass Options” button, choose your date, and click “Get Pass.” Review the details; if all is as you wish it, click on “Continue.” You’ll then be asked to enter your library card number and name. If you’d like a pass that can be saved to a digital wallet, enter your email address. The final step is to click “Reserve” and either add the pass to your digital wallet or print it. Easy!

How do the passes work?

When you arrive at your destination, show your pass and you’ll get the savings of either free or discounted admission.

A few more things to know about the passes:

• You can check out one Michigan Activity Pass per library card every seven days
• Passes are valid for seven days from the date they are reserved
• Call or check the destination’s website to verify hours of operation
