Incremental steps to take toward positive change.

New Year’s resolutions are a great way to focus your efforts on improvement. Here are some ideas your business might adopt to take incremental steps toward positive change in 2022.

Re-evaluate processes

It’s easy to get stuck in doing things the way you’ve always done them. Take time in the new year to re-evaluate your processes—from order intake and marketing to hiring and performance reviews. Are there better ways of getting the job done? Is there new technology that would make these activities more efficient and effective?

Keep your network healthy

Now is always the right time to nurture your professional network. By making networking a priority throughout the year, you establish long-term relationships that can be mutually beneficial. And, when you need advice, referrals or other help, you’ll already know who to turn to.

Give back to you profession

Is there someone in your career who helped you? Perhaps a mentor or colleague who helped you become the leader you are today? Pay this forward by giving back to your profession. Maybe offer informal mentorship or take an active role in your industry’s professional organization.

Create balance

As we head into the third year of a COVID pandemic, it’s natural to feel weary. Find consistent ways to create work-life-fun balance for yourself and your team. Yes, fun is important too. With so much work done at home, even the best efforts at maintaining work-life balance can fall short. Share jokes with your team. Compliment your colleagues. Eat lunch anywhere other than at your desk. Kick off meetings with a trivia question. Have fun discovering what works best for you and your team.

Be willing to fail

Innovation requires trial and error. By definition then, fostering a culture of innovation means there must be room for failure. Experiment often and share the results with our team—both the successes and failures.
