Don’t Get Trapped | The Sophisticated Fraudster
The Sophisticated Fraudster is out to steal your money and your information—this time with card skimmers. Consumers Credit Union is always here to help with fraud and security features, education and a dedicated team.

Watch out for card skimmers
It would be helpful to have a visual of what a card skimmer device look like when installed. Otherwise, I don’t think I would know whether there was one present.
Hi Barb, they strive to make them look no different than the device you are putting your card into. Most people would see no visual indication that there is a card skimmer installed.
Use tap cards whenever possible
I wish all card readers had the tap to skip. I don’t like the ones that don’t. Always looking for skimmers on Walmart devices. Try not to shop there any more.
Always good to know what is happening with fraud.
How do you know that your card has been skimmed? How often should you be checking your account? What do you do if you see charges that are not yours?
Hi Betty, here is more information and some steps to take if you think you have fraud on your card: https://www.consumerscu.org/security If you have any more questions, please give us a call at 800.991.2221!
Never give out personal information, Scammers are on the rise.
Cute, but wouldn’t it have been more helpful — or perhaps this is content for a follow-up video — to show us what the skimmers actually look like? I doubt I could ever recognize the difference, and I would have loved to see comparisons of an ATM with a skimmer and one without. Are there tell-tale signs to look out for, such a plate that is a different color, platform height variances, signs of tool marks, reflective tape, etc? And what does CCU do to protect your own ATMs?
Thanks
Thanks for the wonderful feedback!
