Even during a pandemic, Consumers continues to help its employees live their best possible lives. For its efforts, the credit union was recognized on October 27 as a 2020 Michigan’s Best and Brightest in Wellness® award recipient and additionally the Best Medium-Sized Business among the group.
“Throughout 2020, the Best and Brightest in Wellness winners have demonstrated leadership and forward thinking as they pivoted their business and workforce through Covid-19,” said Jennifer Kluge, president and CEO of Best and Brightest Programs. “As the conversation and focus has shifted, our Best and Brightest in Wellness winning companies have also been a voice for important actions regarding Wellbeing and Race. It is in these unique times, the Best and Brightest in Wellness winners excel and share their knowledge with others.”
Consumers has openly shared company best practices and return to work plans with partners in the business community and continues to seek feedback and implement new procedures to support staff during this time—even continuing wellness engagement through an app and holding virtual, staff-led exercise classes.
Last month, Consumers staff and members were invited to take part in a virtual public lecture the credit union sponsored with Van Andel Institute on understanding Parkinson’s Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia. Continued partnerships that discuss community health and wellness are planned in the future.
“We know that when our employees’ physical, mental and emotional wellbeing are addressed, they are better able to serve our members and the community in kind,” said Chief Human Resources Officer Shawn Premer. “This award affirms our commitment to doing those things well.”
