Consumers Credit Union and Nothing Bundt Cakes Break World Record and Donate $20,000 at Community Cake Walk

Grand Rapids, Mich. — Consumers Credit Union, in partnership with Nothing Bundt Cakes, hosted a sweet success this past weekend at the Special Olympics Michigan campus, bringing together 659 participants to officially break the world record for the largest cake walk ever held. But the real victory came in the form of community impact, with $20,000 donated to benefit Special Olympics Michigan and the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan’s – be nice. program.

Held on the Consumers Credit Union track at the Unified Sports and Inclusion Center, the event was a joyful celebration of inclusion, mental health awareness and community spirit. Attendees of all ages joined in the fun, walking to music in hopes of winning one of 16 grand prizes, while enjoying a carnival-style atmosphere filled with food, games and entertainment.

“This was more than a record-breaking event, it was a record-making moment for our community,” said Lynne Jarman-Johnson, chief marketing officer of Consumers Credit Union. “We’re proud to have hosted such an impactful day at our new track, and even prouder of the generosity and enthusiasm shown by everyone who participated.”

  • Shaved ice from Desi’s Tropical Sno Shack
  • Food trucks from The Smokin Unicorn and Being Cheesy
  • Yard games, inflatables, face painting, character meet-and-greets, Wimee, a dance party, wiffle ball and a Touch-a-Truck experience with the Gaines Township Fire Department.

Thanks to the incredible support of sponsors—including Lacks Enterprises, Inc., OneMagnify, Gun Lake Casino Resort, Canney’s Water Conditioning Inc., Bosch Architecture, MCS Marketing, SignArt, Inc., Richarson Business Solutions, Gaines Chamber of Commerce, ABC Channel 13 On Your Side and Printing Services Inc.—the event was free to attend and open to all.

The donated funds will directly support year-round sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities through Special Olympics Michigan, as well as mental health education and suicide prevention efforts led by be nice.
