Consumers Credit Union and Cherry Health are working together toward a shared goal: bring financial wellness to Cherry Health employees, ultimately setting them up for success on the path to homeownership.

As Michigan’s largest federally qualified health center, Cherry Health offers high-quality health care to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.

Since 2021, the Grand Rapids-based health care facility has partnered with Consumers @Work, a financial wellness program that helps businesses bring financial literacy information and resources to their employees.

“When I met with Consumers, my full vision was to ensure that our staff had bank accounts, but the long-term goal was to set them up so in five years, they could be homeowners,” said Tasha Blackmon, president and CEO of Cherry Health. “They could start to build wealth for their families. They could have the stability that everyone wants and needs to live our best possible life.”

After their wedding in July 2021, Glenda and James Williams were ready to purchase their forever home. As an employee with Cherry Health, Glenda worked with the Consumers @Work program to utilize our innovative bridge loan to secure their forever home.

“Being an employee at Cherry Health, I learned of the relationship we have with Consumers and discovered the many services they offer to employees at Cherry Health,” said Glenda. “Once we were ready, Consumers paid off our old loan and got us into our new home–quick and easy!”

“We love the way that Cherry Health has utilized the Consumers @Work program,” said Scott Dobson, Consumers @Work manager. “Assisting organizations in helping their employees achieve financial stability speaks directly to our mission, and we’re thrilled that Cherry Health is as passionate as we are about supporting employee well-being.”

Consumers Credit Union partners with more than 75 organizations to support their employees and make their paycheck go further. If you’re interested in learning more about the Consumers @Work program, including how your organization can get involved, check out our website at ConsumersCU.org/AtWork.
