We all know that starting the school year off with the right supplies can give kids the confidence they need to learn everything that school has to teach them. At Consumers, we also believe every student needs to learn about finance! Let’s take a look at the financial supplies you can use to help your kids navigate the ups and downs of money.

  1. Savings account. We know-this blog post is supposed to be about checking accounts! A savings account is a great foundation to any financial education and teaches kids what it means to wait for gratification and protect themselves against emergencies.
  2. Student checking account. You knew this one would make the list. A checking account allows your student to make deposits and withdrawals as necessary. They can learn about cash flow, credits and debits, and how to read their transaction history.
  3. Debit card. This gives your student 24/7 access to their money. You can make a transfer from your Consumers account to your student’s account instantly if they need money in a pinch.
  4. Online Banking and Mobile App. Our Online Banking and Mobile App will help your student understand where their money is going and give them up-to-date information on their accounts.

What’s different about a student checking account?

One great advantage of student checking accounts is that they put both the parent/guardian and student in control. Your student’s debit card is set to prevent overdrafts from spending too much money (and to give you the peace of mind you want). All parties can access the accounts anytime through online or mobile banking. Students can also access cash at over 30,000 free co-op ATMs across the country, making it easy for your student to bank how they want, when the want—no matter where they go.

Hello, does Consumers Credit Union charge a transfer fee from saving to checking, if there is $0 in the checking and there is money in the savings and there is a charge pending on the account? If so, what is the fee you charge to transfer money from savings to checking?
