At Consumers Credit Union, educating our communities on financial literacy is our mission. We’ve seen first-hand the benefits our members reap when they understand how to make informative financial decisions. To ensure the next generation is prepared, financial education has to start with our youth.

That’s why we’ve partnered with Wimage to bring fun, engaging financial education to our members of all ages! “Money Minutes with Wimee and Friends” is a fun, new video segment hosted by our favorite robot friend, Wimee.

As part of this new collaboration, each month we will share a new episode of “Money Minutes with Wimee and Friends” to teach our youngest members some basic elements of finance all wrapped up in a fun, bite-sized experience for kids.

Okay cool! But who’s Wimee?

If you’re wondering who this Wimee guy is, don’t worry we’re about to spill all the details.

Made famous by his kid’s show “Wimee’s Words,” which airs weekly on PBS across Michigan, Los Angeles and New York, Wimee is a friendly, and oftentimes silly, robot puppet who guides young audiences on an adventure in creative exploration.

From veteran storytelling to kid’s creative explorer

Michael Hyacinthe, CEO and founder of Wimage, has been a member with Consumers for five years, (He loves us by the way. Five stars. Would definitely recommend.) but he’s also a veteran of the U.S Navy. Upon leaving the military, Michael was devoted to finding his life’s next great purpose.

That’s when Michael created Has Heart, a Michigan-based non-profit that brings military veterans and artistic communities together to foster healing through creativity. From that endeavor, and with a few twists and turns throughout the middle, Wimage was born, an app that turns words into images.

While the app was working well, the Wimage team discovered that it had more relevance in the children’s space, and it eventually became a classroom tool to help young students become visual storytellers, now known as “Wimee’s Words.”

“I grew up in New York City where creativity is included in every aspect of our life,” explained Michael. “So as current resident of Michigan, I’m hoping to bring that same creative energy to the work I do to impact people all around the country. I’m constantly trying to discover new ways to use that creativity to support wounded veterans or help children learn.”

“’Money Minutes with Wimee and Friends’ is such a fun, creative way to begin building the foundation of financial knowledge for kids,” said Lynne Jarman-Johnson, Consumers’ chief marketing officer. “This partnership is just the start of many exciting financial education opportunities that we are readying for our membership.”

Stay tuned for more episodes of “Money Minutes with Wimee and Friends,” as well as some other exciting financial education opportunities on the horizon.
