Find your new business partner.Black Friday sales can offer big savings for businesses, but there are some things to know before you jump on deal.
The discounts enjoyed by consumers on Black Friday can also provide big savings for businesses. However, there are some things you should know to make sure you get a good deal for your company.
When to jump on a Black Friday deal
Before jumping on a deal ask, “Were we planning to make this purchase anyway?” If so, and you can get a good Black Friday deal, go for it. Black Friday provides a deluge of deals on items businesses need like electronics, TVs, tablets and smartphones. However, don’t get pulled in by marketing buzz if it’s not something your business really needs.
Know the seller’s policy
Before you enter your business credit card number and hit “buy,” make sure you know the seller’s policies. For example, some retailers suspend price-matching policies from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, or even the whole week following. Make sure you know the retailer’s policies for returns, exchanges and price matching.
Do your homework
It’s easy to get caught up in marketing hype, even when you’re shopping for your business. When taking advantage of Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Cyber Week deals, make a list of the items you seek and determine the regular price for each item. When you see an advertised “special” you’ll be able to quickly decide if it’s a deal you should grab right away or pass on.
Stay safe when buying online
Mobile shopping makes it easy to buy from your smartphone. Just be sure you’re using a secure network before you share your payment info. Unsecured public Wi-Fi makes your credit card number and personal information vulnerable to hackers.
Forbes also reports that Black Friday shoppers should also be vigilant to guard against malicious attachments and malware designed to access account numbers, login credentials and computer systems.
ALSO … after Black Friday, remember Small Business Saturday
The “shop small” movement reminds us all to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for our communities. The Saturday after Black Friday is a great time to support local businesses. Here’s where to find many in our area:
- In Kalamazoo and Southwest Michigan, Southwest Michigan First
- In Grand Rapids, Local First
- In St. Joseph; discover local shopkeepers
- In Holland, find downtown shops
