Learn moreAfter nearly 31 years of dedicated service, Cindy Powell is preparing to retire from her role as a senior digital service representative at Consumers Credit Union. And while she may be signing off from her day-to-day duties, her impact will be felt for years to come.
Cindy’s journey with Consumers began in September 1994 as a teller. Since then, she’s worn many hats, but one thing has remained constant: her unwavering commitment to helping members and supporting her teammates.
“I feel like my biggest achievement has been helping members—whether it was approving a loan they couldn’t get somewhere else or even respectfully denying one and helping them understand why,” Cindy shared. “It’s about making life a little easier and being kind while doing it.”
A Career Built on Compassion
Over the years, Cindy has become a trusted voice and a steady presence for members navigating their financial journeys. Whether she was helping someone secure a loan or guiding them through a tough financial decision, Cindy always led with empathy and understanding.
“I’ve had members thank me for denying them a loan before,” she said. “It’s all about how you treat people—with kindness and respect.”
Her ability to handle challenging conversations with grace and clarity has made her a role model for many.
Advice for the Next Generation
Cindy’s advice to new team members is simple but powerful: soak it all in.
“Absorb as much as you can from those around you. Take the trainings that are offered; fully participate as much as you can. We work for a very inclusive company, and nobody should feel left out.”
A Legacy of Service and Community
Cindy’s time at Consumers wasn’t just about the work, it was about the people. From participating in Habitat for Humanity builds to bowling fundraisers for Big Brothers Big Sisters, she’s always been eager to give back.
One of her favorite memories? Unloading pre-built walls from a semi-truck during a Habitat build with her husband and fellow coworkers.
What’s Next?
Retirement won’t slow Cindy down. She’s already planning to volunteer with Kind Human 4 Humankind, a group that supports unhoused individuals with essential supplies. She’s also looking forward to landscaping her new yard, spending time with her cat and being able to stay up late to watch football games.
A Fond Farewell
As Cindy prepares to close this chapter, she’s filled with gratitude.
“I just want to say, “thank you” for everything everybody has done for me over these 31 years and how much a part of my life the credit union has become … all my friends that I’ve made that are like family. It’s going to be hard not to get up every day and go, “I have to go to work.” But it’s also something I’m looking forward to. I’m going to miss everybody here, and I want to thank everybody for being a part of my life. Don’t be a stranger.”
Cindy, thank you for your kindness, your wisdom and your decades of service. You’ve made a lasting difference in the lives of so many—members and teammates alike.
